Computers and assistive technology software have opened many employment opportunities to visually impaired persons, which were previously unavailable to them.  The Kenya Union of the Blind recognizes and applauds employers who have developed and implemented inclusive employment policies.

For a number of years, the Kenya Union of the Blind has been working with Safaricom to refer visually impaired employees to their call centre operations.  Safaricom employs approximately ten visually impaired persons in Nairobi and has computers and workstations specifically equipped for them.  The program has been a great success!

We are seeking other organizations who would be willing to receive demos on assistive technology software and provide internships for or hire visually impaired youth.

We also wish to recognize Naivas and Capital FM for their support of the Kenya Union of the Blind in establishing the Blind Child Trust Fund.
